MentorshipBOOTcamp(TM)
We train our leaders how to be effective mentors
Quick lesson on mentoring.
Part 1
Benefits of mentoring
No matter who you are, what age group you're in, mentoring can be beneficial for transitioning through different stages of life, growth, and self development.
For example, let's say, you wanted a new high paying position on your job, but you lacked the skills to perform. A mentor with expertise in that area can help you develop new skills while equipping you for that position.
Think about the areas that you are currently struggling with now (it can be faith, spiritual growth, setting healthy boundaries in relationships, or setting goals for your future). Whatever struggle you're dealing with a mentor can equip you and help you maneuver out of the mud hole.
Part 2
Mentoring = Partnership
Mentoring=Partnership: In order for growth and development, the mentor and mentee have to be committed to their part. A mentor should be knowledgeable, skilled in the area(s) that you're seeking growth, a good listener, a good communicator, authentic, dedicated, involved, honest, transparent, able to teach, opened to learning, able to give instructions and guide you in the right direction. Note, there are times the mentor will not have the answer, but they should be willing to help you seek the answer.
The mentee should be, loyal, honest, open to constructive criticism, willing to try new things, respectful of their mentor time (call when changes occur) committed to completing assignments and showing up to scheduled meetings. Mentoring =Partnership each person must bring their part to the table for growth and development.
Make sure your mentee understands the benefits they will reap:
You can assure them that you will:
Help them expand their thinking
Give insight and guide them in the right direction
Share your knowledge and expertise
Help them create and meet goals
Accountability
Encourage
Support
Challenge them to move to new levels
Give Godly advice
Help them develop and grow
Part 3
Communicate with your mentee and let them know your expectations
Commitment
Attend Weekly Meetings
Respond to calls
Notify mentor if changes occur
Complete assignments
Interview your mentee
Ask them questions so you can understand their need
Why do you want a mentor?
What do you want to learn and accomplish?
What areas do you want to grow and develop?
